Abstract

Background:
This study aimed at investigating the attitude of caretakers towards the use of SFABs in clubfoot management among children below 2years at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Methodology:
A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in which primary quantitative data were obtained from 30 caretakers of children with clubfoot below 2years of age.

Results:
The study showed that most of the caretakers had a negative attitude towards the use of SFAB, as indicated by the majority (33.3%) mentioning that braces caused more pain, (26.7%) mentioned that the brace caused the children to lack sleep, while  (23.3%) mentioned that braces made the children to cry and (16.7%) mentioned that the braces sometimes caused wounds.

Conclusion:
The majority of the caretakers had a poor attitude toward the use of SFAB in the management of clubfoot, as most of them (33.3%)  complained that the brace causes more pain to their children.

Recommendation:
The technical staff of the MNRH orthopedic technology department should make adjustments to the currently prescribed SFABs to ensure the infants do not feel pain when using them. Thus, amplifying parents’ attitude towards the prescribed braces.
